If you want to experience massive growth for your business then you need to understand the type of traffic to your website.
All traffic is not created equal and I'm going to show you exactly what I mean.
Traffic That You Don't Control
Traffic that you don't control is traffic that just shows up to your website and you have no control where it came from.
It could come from a Facebook where someone mentioned your company and they did a Google search to find you.
It could come from a YouTube video where someone mentioned your company or where they happened to stumble upon your video while searching for something else.
It could come off of any social media platform where they weren't necessarily searching for you but you happen to cross oaths with them while they were searching around.
Your main objective is to turn that internet traffic you don't control into traffic you own. Your website should be optimized for lead conversion meaning that no matter what page they land on, they have a way to give you their email address in exchange for something.
Once they do that, they become traffic you own. You'll be able to email them on a regular basis providing content that helps them and drive traffic to your products or services.
Traffic You Control
Traffic you control is traffic that you send to your website or lead capture page. You simply do this by advertising with Pay-Per-Click ads (Google, Facebook, Bing, Yahoo!), newsletters, banner ads and native ads.
This type of traffic works best when you send them to a lead capture page, also known as a squeeze page, where the only thing they can do is enter their email address to receive whatever it is that you want to give them in exchange for.
That's the only purpose of the page, to get a lead... that's it. The only thing on the page will be a captivating headline to draw their interest, an email opt in form, and nothing else... no navigation menu, no sidebar, no links to other places on your site, nothing. They either give you their email address or leave.
This cuts out any distraction and puts their sole attention on how you can help them. Obviously, not everyone is going to convert into a lead. You should target anywhere between a 30% - 50% conversion rate. No worries about the ones who leave because if they won't at least give you their email address then they'll never give you their money.
Here is an example of a lead capture page for another business that I own if you you're unclear of what one looks like.
If you sell products online and ship to other places outside of your geographic area, and you don't want to mess with pay per click with selecting and bidding on keywords, a great source to buy traffic is from GrowTraffic.com.
This is how it works:
You select how many days you want them to run traffic to your site ranging anywhere from 7-90 days, you select how many visitors you want during that time, select a category that fits your business the best, tell them what page you want to drive traffic to, and BOOM, high quality and targeted traffic will be on it's way in approximately 24 hours.
They've partnered with a large ad network with over 20,000,000 visitors a day through it's network. After you purchase traffic from them, your site will be displayed on this network until the number of visitors you've selected has clicked on your ad and been sent to your site.
They also keep a tracking link for your site that displays how many visitors they've sent to you so you can also keep track of your stats.
Here is their FAQ section so you can learn more about them and set up your campaign. Their packages are very affordable and it's worth giving it a test run so you can witness the quality of the traffic before you invest in their larger packages.
Traffic That You Own
This is the best type of traffic you can have. Why? Because you own it!
This is traffic that comes from your email subscribers list, your social media following, your past customers and your blog readers.
All you have to do is send out an email, post on social media, or post a new blog article and BOOM, instant traffic.
You don't have to buy it (paid advertising), worry about optimizing your SEO or anything else. This is your own distribution channel and you can send traffic to your site or your offers without any marketing costs whatsoever.
You can sell your products and services to these people over and over again and every penny you generate is pure profit.
Another great thing about traffic you own is this... generally, every person that's on your email subscriber list is worth roughly $1 per month in revenue.
So if you have 100 people on your list, you'll approximately earn $100, 2500 people on your list and you'll profit $2500, 10,000 people on your list and , yes, you guessed it, $10,000 straight profit.
Again, since you own this traffic and you're not spending anything to market to it, the money is 100% yours to keep.
Lesson Learned Here
It doesn't matter if you're running a brick and mortar store or have an online business, your website's only job is to create a lead, that's it.
98.1% of your visitors will NEVER buy from you the first time they visit your site. Over 85% will never visit again. So collect their email address so you can continue to send them back to your site over and over again so they will buy form you.
So, What Do I Do Now That I Own My Traffic?
Simple, first you have to build your Value Ladder and then filter them through your sales funnel. Go and read those two posts in order, because you can have all the traffic and leads in the world, but if you can't convert them into paying customers, you're wasting your time and money.
Common Misconception About Traffic
Small businesses think they need to generate traffic. They couldn't be more wrong.
All the traffic you'll ever need is already there... all you need to do is reroute them to your site.
The first thing you need to do is determine who your perfect customer is... who are the one that are most likely to buy your products and services. Don't you dare say "My product and service is for everyone."
There is a saying in marketing and it goes like this:
If you market to everyone, you'll end up getting no one. Define your perfect customer & go hard after them.

You can definitely say that our services cater to every business. And they do. But guess what would happen if we went after big corporations, small businesses, online businesses, non profit organizations, etc.?
We'd be out of business. Why? Because it's too broad. When you pick a specific market you can send a message that speaks and relates to that particular sector.
You become an expert for those people and they begin to know you, like you and trust you. When that happens they buy from you.
We happen to focus on small local brick and mortar businesses. We have a passion for small businesses and believe they are the foundation of the country's economy. Nothing gives us more gratitude than teaching them how they can bring the online world into their offline business at a 1/3 of what it's currently costing them now. But the real payoff is seeing them double, or even triple their business in a short amount of time and set them on a foundation for long-term business financial growth.
You just have to do the same. Define your perfect customer, cater your marketing message around them and watch your business grow at a rate faster than you'd ever imagine.
Your next step is to discover where these people are hanging out online. What sites do they visit? What forums are they apart of? What Facebook pages do they like and what Facebook groups are they in? Who do they connect with on LinkedIn? What newsletters are they subscribing to? What sites do they get their news and entertainment from? What food blogs are they reading?
The list goes on and on but the point here is to find out exactly where your perfect customer is at. Then simply run ads on those sites they visit and send them to your website.
Then 30% - 50% will give you their email address and you send them up your Value Ladder and filter them through your sales funnel. Then sell to them over and over again and repeat the process only this time scale it bigger. That's how you grow your business and ensure it'll be around for a very long time.
